ŠKODA 15 Tr trolleybus no. 414 from 1987

The production of the first Czechoslovakia articulated trolleybuses type 15Tr has started at the Škoda factory in Ostrov nad Ohří in 1988. At the time, was already in fifth year of development, when construction of two prototypes began in 1983. The trolleybuses left the factory in various series, desings, and paintwork for customers all over the world.  In 1995, the model underwent modernization (including standard trolleybuses of the 14Tr series).  Changes were made to the body, both fronts, power unit and interior. The use of an electronic information system was innovative at the time. After this change in production, the modernized models were desinged as 15 TrM. The series production of these trolleybuses was only terminated with the closure of the Ostrov production facility in 2004. In the summer of 2004, the last two trolleybuses of this type out of a total of 617 produced were delivered.

Our Škoda 15Tr 3rd prototype trolleybus, registration number 414, was manufactured in 1987 and underwent trial operation without passengers on the Plzeň routes under administrative number 501 starting from September 2, 1987. On April 5 was returned to factory, where underwent overhaul and after that was purchased by PMDP, a.s. And so on July 15, 1988, it could be put into full service on the then busiest line No. 10 with registration number 414.

The color design of this trolleybus was standard, like the previous ones, a combination of beige and red. However, it significantly differed from its successors and contemporaneously delivered 14Tr trolleybuses. Due to its prototype differences, it was not popular among drivers, so its total mileage was not very high. During operation in the transport company, it underwent one major inspection in the central workshops, followed by a new paint job. The trolleybus operated in regular service until December 2000 when it was taken out of service. Exactly a year later, it was sold to the Škoda museum, where it was intended to become a permanent exhibit. The vehicle parked in the current exhibition hall of the Techmania museum. After the liquidation of the Škoda Museum, it was returned to the ownership of PMDP, where it was transferred on March 15, 2010. Then it was shut down in the outdoor area, where it decayed. Only at the end of 2014, extensive renovation work began, which was completed in the spring of 2015. Since neither of the previous two prototypes survived, our trolleybus is the oldest surviving vehicle of its type.

The maximum capacity is 44 seated passengers and 106 standing passengers. However, for a comfortable ride, we recommend a maximum of 100 passengers on board.

The trolleybus cannot be operated from November 1st to March 31st.
